Dear Reader,
Welcome to another sketchbook surgery.
What is Sketchbook Surgery? It’s a place where I discuss the struggles of keeping a sketchbook habit. In each post, I will look at a different area that has come up in my practice or one that I’ve noticed others are struggling with. Tips are shared and guidance is given and you’re welcome to write your thoughts, struggles and feedback in the comments.
Over recent months I’ve had a number of questions asking what kind of things do I like to take out with me when sketching on location, ranging from what bag do I use to the type of stool I’d recommend. So I thought it would be an idea to answer these questions in this month’s Sketchbook Surgery post and list in detail everything (bar my sketching materials) I carry in my kit.
I hope it will be of help to those of you starting to sketch on location or even if you’ve been doing it a while; I always like to hear what others find useful so please do share your thoughts in the comments below.
Over time you may find some things listed here aren’t as relevant so don’t feel obligated to get everything I mention.
Rather use it as a starting point/guide/check list and adapt as you go.
Where appropriate I have linked to items or made suggestions of where to find these things and I have categorised the items to make it easier to consider what you might like to include in yours.
