Dear Reader,
As we move into September it’s been nice to flick through these pages from August to remind myself of the Summer outings and walks that I went on. If you’re familiar with the area you may recognise parts of the West Penwith coastline that I sketched which includes views to Kemyel Crease, Lamorna Cove and Tater-du Lighthouse.
Closer to home my husband and I walked from Porthallow to Gillan and around Nare’s head where I sketched a couple times along the way. Limiting my time certainly helped keep the sketches loose and simple.
In August I also met up with fellow illustrator Kriksis and sketched the green woods near Constantine, challenging ourselves to timed drawing exercises and continuing to experiment with gouache and Neocolor II crayons.
August was also the month I spent putting together my 2024 calendar so the butterflies and little sketches you see were additions I wanted to add to the months.
I think my favourite spread this month is the view from Kynance. I sketched on top of pre-painted pages and just love the texture that comes through.
If you’d like to watch some of my summer adventures you can catch them here in my latest artist vlog:
Such an inspirational coastline and your sketches are lovely. Love the colours and the use of the Neo II crayons. I love using mine but still getting to grips with them and loose outdoor sketching so it’s interesting to hear you limit your time. 💜
