Substack is a new space for me to be online, and I hope one where I can draw-together (no pun intended), collate and share the many strands that make up my creative life.
I chose to call it ‘Seasalt and Serpentine’ as it’s a reflection of the place in which I live, on the Lizard Peninsula which certainly influences and inspires me. I’m an illustrator by trade, mostly working with other businesses on branding assets, maps and packaging. I also teach and regularly host workshops and sketch walks around the area. This year I launched my first independently run online course The Joy of Sketching on location and it’s been wonderful to connect with so many across the world and introduce them to my part of the world. I also make time to sketch and draw from my surroundings and share this mostly through Youtube videos, although I would like to catalogue more of my pages in a more permanent space online.
As you can hear my creative practice is made up of a range of strands which I hope to share more fully with you through these dispatches so you can catch a glimpse of what it’s like to live, work and create on these rocky shores.
Here’s what you can expect to see/read from me:
monthly round-up of my illustration client work
news on upcoming workshops, drink and draw sessions and online courses
sketchbook spreads from my walks
announcements of new work and products inspired by the Lizard landscape
podcasts, videos, advice on having a creative practice
Stay up-to-date
You won’t have to worry about missing anything. Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox, or you can catch up every now and again by visiting me here. And the other thing that I’m excited about in sharing my work here is the opportunity to connect with you the reader. So I look forward to hearing from you as it makes the creation of work a conversation.
