A project I’ve been working on in the background is the re-launch of the Creative Catch Up Podcast. Starting in June 2020 Natasha Newton and I recorded 2 seasons with 20 episodes chatting about running a creative business, the ups and downs, struggles and successes. If I remember, it felt both exciting and nerve-wracking to first chat with another creative about running an artist business and second to share this conversation with others. When you’re working mostly on your own and navigating the waters of being a self-employed artist, finding someone working in a similar environment can be hard to come by and this was one of the main motivations to start the podcast in the first place. Over the two seasons, we chatted about a range of topics that have come up for us ranging from contracts and pricing to dealing with comparison and procrastination. For me, it was great to be able to chat regularly with another artist and share frustrations or successes or ask questions about specific art-related topics.
We have been talking about recording season 3 since we published our last episode in 2021 but have never managed to get around to it. However, we finally scheduled some time to start recording a new season and our first episode went live on April 1st.
We also have a new person joining us for the season and are delighted to announce that illustrator and fellow YouTuber Kriksis will now be part of the crew. I feel all three of us have something unique to bring and span a few different areas of the fine art, illustration and commercial creative world.
I spent some time giving our branding a refresh. I kept the original illustrations but thought combining them with some hand-painted textures would reflect us better. I invited everyone to paint their favourite watercolour swatches and combined them to create a warm and inviting look.
We’re also looking forward to engaging and building a creative community and inviting questions that we can answer on the podcast. If you have any questions just ask them below or find us on Youtube or Instagram to submit.
You can listen on Youtube or any podcast app and below is the link to our first episode of the season. It’s just over an hour long making it the best companion for some creative work!
