Dear Reader,
How are you? It’s been a little while since my last share of sketchbook spreads so before Summer speedily moves into Autumn I thought I’d share with you my pages from June and July. I pick up from where I left off sketching the days from our Open Studio event at Lowenek art studio.
In my July spreads the discerning amongst you may detect some different colour choices and textures. On my birthday my friend Kriksis gifted me with a small but perfectly formed tin of curated gouache. Delighted I have steadily sought to bring these into my sketchbook pages. The colour palette has certainly been ideal for soft summer days and hazy cornish creeks. I also enjoyed pairing the gouache with my Pitt oil pencil and so you’ll see a couple of spreads where those are the only materials I use. You’ll notice these are more muted in tone and colour.
I’ve also included some of the sketches from my Lavender workshop and watercolour postcards, whilst these are not done in my sketchbooks I thought it interesting to include them for you to see as they tend to be faster/looser sketches.

Introducing the Gouache tin
In the following sketches I bring back all my usual mediums and combine with a gouache/watercolour base.
Simple watercolour sketches from my Lavender workshop
Hope you enjoyed the show! Stay tuned as I’ll be back soon with a special sketchbook related shop item announcement.
Lovely work Melanie, I always enjoy looking at your beautiful sketches
Curious if your gouache tin holds dried paint or if it is some kind of stay wet palette? Thanks Mel! 💕
