Dear Reader,
Please find another month of pages from the inside of my sketchbook. May drawing weather has definitely been drier and warmer. The other delight has been to see all the wildflowers blooming and observe the Lizard landscape coming to life. I so enjoyed sketching the Cornish hedgerows and cliffs and trying to capture all the beauty of these. If someone wants to commission an illustrated sketchbook guide to wildflowers on the Lizard then I’ll happily oblige!
I also discovered Cornish Pigments a local business that harvests pigment from the rocks and ground. See below my samples and the video shows unboxing, swatching and drawing with these.
Cornwall Open Studios event also happened at the end of May and the last few sketches document some of the spots around Lowenek Art Studio.
As usual, these are all sketched on location from direct observation and vary from 20 mins to 40 mins. I enjoy using a mix of materials- ink, watercolour, brush pens, inktense pencils, luminance, fountain pen and Neocolor IIs.
I feel like I can feel the landscape and atmosphere of your subjects. The pigments are earthen goodness
Gorgeous sketches! I can feel the wind blowing in the trees of your sketch of Roskorwell from 17May.
