It's really lovely to see the photo and the sketch - to see the ways in which you selected and simplified elements, the way you used color, to capture the whole feel and sense of place. I like contemplating the way in which the photo is more technically accurate, while the sketch seems more emotionally accurate :) Beautiful outing!
I spent the day in the woods sketching as well... so it sounded like I was still there for a bit. I loved you mentioned "Frenchmans Creek" I had no idea it was a real place. I read that many years ago. I love several of Daphne DeMaurier's books. Especially "Rebecca". A beautiful visual introduction in that book. Thank you for your peaceful podcast, Melanie. It was lovely. ⚘️
Thanks Sydney really interesting to hear your thoughts on the photo and sketch. I think that's also why I like to draw from observation- I can respond more intuitively to the surroundings more than if I just had the reference photo.
Such a lovely podcast. Really cheered me up. x
So glad to hear Julie
Lovely walk in the woods, thank you for 'taking' us with you, Mel!
Beautiful Mel! A wonderful start to my day.x

That's so nice to hear! Yes I think we have quite a few people who visit because of the book, it is certainly a beautiful place to sketch.
